US President Trump whines about 'big, beautiful' bill, higher rates, unfair Japanese auto trade

update 2025.06.30 11:11

In a pre-taped interview with Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures", US President Donald Trump expressed his concerns about his 'big, beautiful' spending bill and unfair Japanese auto trade.

On passing the bill by his July 4 target date, he said: "I don't know. I mean, I can't tell you that."

"I'd like to say, yes. But the problem is if we're two days late or five days late, everybody says, 'Oh, you had a tremendous failure,'" he noted further.

Speaking on the $9 trillion US debt that is set to mature this year, he said, "I don't want to have to pay for 10 years debt at a higher rate."

He said, "we're to get somebody into the Fed who's going to be able to lower the rate."

On Japanese trade, Trump said, "they won't take our cars, and we take millions of theirs. It's not fair," adding that "Japan could import more US oil and other products."

Market reaction

The US Dollar Index (DXY) remains under moderate selling pressure following these comments, down 0.21% so far at 97.20.
